PlateUp!

PlateUp! combines chaotic kitchen and restaurant management with strategic planning and development to create a delightful roguelite dish unlike any other...

Up to four players build and run a restaurant from scratch, choosing dishes, buying and placing appliances – some of which can be daisy-chained together to create ambitious automatic kitchens – cooking food and serving customers.

Players have free rein to design their restaurant which will expand and develop between shifts – with additional content and challenges unlocked through progression.

Can you cook, serve and manage your way through 15 hectic days in your restaurant and unlock a brand-new franchise?

My Work On This Project

Lead Programmer

PlateUp! was my second project as lead programmer. From the start of this project, I was tasked with simultaneously leading the development of the five ports whilst training the junior members of the project to use our in-house porting technology Huey Core, in order to ensure that the porting process goes as smoothly as possible.

Porting

Myself and the team were tasked with porting PlateUp! to Microsoft Store, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, all powered by Huey Core. This led to us adding support for Sony PlayStation 4 later on in the project, which was announced shortly thereafter.

Networking

The game featured a networking solution that was only compatible with Steam and as such, my team and I were tasked with researching and implementing a new solution compatible with all the platforms we were porting the title to. We implemented a new solution which was compatible with all platforms which included increased performance and security. This solution also allowed us to implement cross-play between Microsoft Store and Steam.
